Stanford U13’s came away with a win in a closely fought match against South Woodham Ferrers. Stanford were reduced to 14 players after 10 minutes, but battled hard with excellent all round performances. Outstanding contributions from the forwards gave them the strength to hold on to their lead, and they ran out 39-36 in an exciting game. Try scorers were: Rhys Smith-Allen 3, Chase Coley, Dan Sullivan, Jack Payne, Craig Downes. Conversions were scored by Jordan Harper and Jack Payne.
South Woodham Ferrers under 12’s were too strong in the backs for Stanford, who fought well in the forwards but lost 42-7 against a very good South Woodham outfit. Captain Emily Scott scored Stanford’s only try, which was converted by Bradley Burrows.
A Stanford U10/11’s team took on an experienced team from South Woodham Ferrers and were unlucky to go down 20-15 in a tense and exciting encounter. Stanford controlled the game well and looked good for a win with the score at 15-10 but their opponents came back strongly and scored twice to win the game. Stanford's scorers were Nathan Hickey, Mark Sullivan and Jamie Lake.
In their second game of the weekend Stanford U10/11’s produced some excellent defensive work to hold at bay a strong physical team from Ilford. the match was won through the great counter attacking and sheer pace of their runners. Two breakaway tries the length of the field were scored by Mark Sullivan and Jamie Lake respectively. It was an excellent performance against a team that had proven to be too strong for them last season. Final score Stanford 10 Ilford 0 , Well done Stanford !!
Stanford U9’s produced two high class performances on Sunday, beating South Woodham and Ilford. In their first match against South Woodham, Stanford was three tries up by half-time and scored three after the break to win 30-0. Tries scored by Dominic McDonald 3, James Kitchen 2 and Liam Page. Against Ilford, Stanford turned on the power in the first half to produce some great running rugby, and was 20-0 up by half-time. This gave coach Kyran McDonald the chance to use some less experienced players in the second half, including Bradley, Connor and Josh Goshmanski. Scorers were Dan O’Flaherty, George Taylor, Sean Bunney, Dominic McDonald and James Kitchen. Stanford triumphed 25-0.
John Taylor’s U7 squad performed well, with South Woodham’s U8 team just shading a tight first game, 20-15. Stanford’s scorers were Alfie Drum, Dan McCallister and Robin Hughes. Stanford played many of their more inexperienced players in the next match, and lost 5-30 to Ilford, with Liam Brunger scoring. In the final match between Stanford U7 and SWF U8, the young home side showed their considerable potential, with a 10-10 draw the result. Ryan Bunney and an outstanding Robin Hughes were the try-scorers.
