On Sunday, Stanford U11s travelled to a muddy Upminster rugby club and put on a strong display of gritty rugby in difficult conditions. The first game saw Stanford take on Romford & Gidea Park. The first half was a tough forwards battle with Stanford coming out on top. The score at half time was 5-5 thanks to a breakaway try from Nathan Hickey. The second half saw Stanford camped in the Romford half, but were unable to cross the line. Romford scored a good try breaking tackles through strong running. Stanford attacked again but were punished with a breakaway try from the Romford Winger. Final Score Stanford 5 Romford & Gidea Park 15.
The second game was against Upminster B who were looking to avenge their loss against Stanford earlier in the season. But it was not to be. The young Stanford team was more than up for this very physical game and ran out convincing winners. Final score Stanford 15 Upminster B 5. The Stanford scorers were winger Jamie Lake, outside half Nathan Hickey and prop and Captain Geoff Smith.
