Stanford under 7’s ended a great season by qualifying for the final at the Eton Manor Festival.
In their first match, they beat hosts Eton Manor 25-10, with tries from Robin Hughes 2, Daniel McAllister 2 and Albert Aldham.
The second match was against local rivals Thurrock and ended in a 15-15 draw. Scorers were: Sam Moran, Callum Jones and Robin Hughes.
The third match saw Stanford beat Sevenoaks 20-10, with tries from Robin Hughes 2, Callum Jones and Alfie Drum.
This meant they had qualified for the Festival final against Medway. In a hard fought game, both teams defended well, with the Kent side scoring first. Alfie Drum scored soon after to level the scores. At full time it was 20-20, which meant sudden death. After the toss of a coin, Medway scored from the re-start to win 25-20.
After a nice end to a good season for the under 7s, Coach John Taylor said a big thank you to the boys who had a great season and also said thanks for the brilliant support from the parents.
Stanford under 8’s played below par against more experienced sides in a high quality competition.
Their first match was against hosts Eton Manor, which ended in a 25-25 draw. Scorers were: Louis Webb, Liam Brunger 2, Dan O’Flaherty and Bradley Oakley.
Their second match was against Kent side Medway, and Stanford performed better, but lost 25-15 to a well organised side. Scorers were: Bradley Oakley 2 and Kallum Lennox.
Their third match saw them up against eventual winners Thurrock. Stanford turned over the ball too often with far too many handling errors, and lost 40-20. Scorers were Liam Brunger and Dan O’Flaherty 3.
The team can look forward to contact rugby next season.
Stanford under 9’s played in a very tough group, and started with a narrow loss against rivals Eton Manor. The hosts squeezed a try into the corner in the last minute to win 5-0.
Next up were Ilford, and despite a lot of good tackling Stanford lost 0-5.
They then lost 10-0 against Thurrock in their final match.
Coach Kyran McDonald was disappointed as the boys did not get into their stride on the day in a very competitive age group.
Stanford under 11’s started with a close game against Thurrock and they were just edged out 10-5. Geoff Smith scored for Stanford.
They were beaten 10-0 by a good Brentwood side in their second match.
Their third match saw a terrific defensive performance against old rivals and hosts Eton Manor in a far from boring 0-0 draw.
In their final match, Medway were beaten by a Mark Sullivan try in a 5-0 win for the Stanford side.
The under 12’s had a good start to the Festival, beating Brentwood 15-0, with tries from Jamie Douglas and Jake Barrand 2.
Stanford then met hosts Eton Manor in a tough game, with the home side coming out on top 10-5. Joe Meadows scored Stanford’s try.
Next up were local rivals Thurrock. This was another hard fought match which Stanford won 10-5. Tries were scored by Joe Meadows and Jay Ingle.
This put Stanford in the plate final against Medway. This was a close match and although Stanford played some good rugby, the Kent side managed to score the only try to leave the score at 5-0 to Medway.
The under 12 player of the day was Joe Meadows.
