In their first game, Stanford under 8’s took on a well organised Southend side in tag. Initially, Southend’s defence was firm, but good passing and running by the Stanford side saw a 25-5 win. Try scorers: Kallum Lennox, Bradley Oakley, Louis Webb, Dan O’Flaherty and Josh Goshmanski.
Next up was South Woodham, also for a tag game, who looked a well drilled side. In a tight, well-contested game, Stanford’s flair was equalled by South Woodham’s organised defence, to end in a 20-20 draw. Scorers for Stanford were Josh Goshmanski, Bradley Oakley 2 and Dan O’Flaherty.
Finally, South Woodham requested a contact training game with Stanford, and in a match noted for its tough tackling, the home side were surprised with the level of commitment and organisation of Stanford. Despite staunch defence by the home side, Stanford came out on top by 25-5. Scorers were: Liam Page 3, Dan O’Flaherty 2.
Considering the side was not formed until the beginning of March, this was a great achievement by the lads.
Stanford under 12’s played a tough South Woodham side and although they played some excellent rugby, and despite some heavy tackling by Connor Gower and Ryan Goulding Thomas, South Woodham managed to put three tries past Stanford to leave the score 21-0 to the home side.
They then played Southend. Stanford dominated from the start, running in five tries. Southend scored the last try of the game to leave the final score 31-7. Tries scored by: Jay Ingle 2, Jake Barrand, Ryan Goulding-Thomas and Jamie Douglas. Conversions: Joe Meadows, Brad Burrows and Jay Ingle.
Player of the day was Lee Gillingham.
