Stanford under 9’s played a hard-fought match at Ilford on Sunday. The home side tackled hard and defended well throughout the match, causing the Stanford side to make handling errors. Stanford’s fly half and Captain Dominic McDonald scored his team’s two tries and put in some great tackles along with George Taylor and James Kitchen. The backs, including Sean Bunney, Jacob Dennis and Dan O’Flaherty tried to create chances, but were starved of the ball, due largely to the early tackling by Ilford on Stanford’s scrum half Liam Page at the scrum. On the positive side, Connor Gillam and Ryan Quinn carried the ball well and James Wade tackled and rucked hard. Although Stanford was level at half time, Ilford just edged the scoring in the second half and won by 15-10.
