Stanford under 13’s produced some fine rugby against a strong Burnham team. For the first time this season they were back with a full strength squad going in at half time 10 – 10 with little between the two teams. In the second half Stanford’s forwards started to dictate up front which lead to forwards and backs combining well to start opening up gaps to produce 5 well taken tries, to run out 41-10 winners. Try scorers were: Jack Payne 2, Daniel Sullivan 2, Reece Smith-Allen 1, Jordan Harper 1, Ian Powell 1, Conversions: 3 Jordan Harper.
Stanford under 12’s celebrated their first game of the New Year with a convincing victory over Burnham by 55-5. Winning and recycling their own ball, whilst also pressurising Burnham into making mistakes on their own line-outs and scrums, the dominant Stanford forwards came up with five tries between them from Joe Meadows, Jamie Douglas with three and debutant Geoff Smith. This victory was the result of the Stanford pack refusing to let their opposition have the ball. Great passing, running and support play by all the backs produced tries by Jay Ingle 2, Bradley Burrows, Sam Hawkes, Jake Barrand and Emily Scott. Special mention should go to David Tester, Ryan Hawkins, Liam Blackman and Ryan Morey. Player of the day was Jake Barrand.
Stanford U10/11 had too much fire power in the backs for Burnham, in a battle that was fairly even up front. A hat-trick of first half breakaway tries by Nathan Hickey killed off the match as a contest, for Stanford to lead 15-0 at half-time. In the second half, James Brown went over after good work by the forwards, and Samuel Dixon completed the scoring, for Stanford to run out 25-0 winners.
Stanford U9 played a combined U9/10 Burnham side, and played well in an exciting match to draw 15-15. The Stanford forwards competed well at breakdowns and looked dangerous when they spread the ball wide, putting pressure on the older Burnham side. Stanford were 10-0 up at half time after first half tries by Dan O’Flaherty and James Kitchen. James Kitchen scored again in the second half, but Burnham replied with scores from Joe Ball (2) and Ben Munford.
The under 7 squad lost 30-15 in a hard-fought match against Burnham under 7’s at the Rec. Harry Taylor, Callum Jones and Dan McAllister were Stanford’s scorers. The more experienced of the under 7 squad then took on Burnham under 8’s in a close match that ended with a win for Stanford by 10-5. Alfie Drum and Robin Hughes scored for Stanford.
