In Stanford’s first under 12’s match, Basildon took an early lead, and the home side held the advantage at half-time, 14-7. Stanford came back well in the second period to level the game 14-14 at full time. Try scorers were Bradley Burrows and Jay Ingle, with 2 conversions by Jake Barrand. In Stanford’s second game, good defending led to the borough side running out 21-0 winners against Burnham. Jake Barrand’s tactical kicking was of a high quality, and kept Burnham under pressure. The game was most notable for a mazy run the length of the pitch by Liam Blackman after an interception. Try scorers were George Parrott 2, and Emily Scott, with conversions by Emily Scott and Bradley Burrows 2. Player of the day was Second Row George Parrott, who covered the whole pitch and rucked well.
A Plucky Stanford U10/11 travelled to Basildon with the bare bones of a team and produced some exciting rugby. With several regulars missing it was going to be tough. The first game v Basildon U10 was a classic game of two halves with their opponents edging the first half and Stanford battling back to even the score in the second half. At one point in the game it looked as though Stanford might just take the honours, but it was not to be, and the game ended 5-5. The try scorer was winger Jamie Lake. The second game was hard work and the Basildon U11 team proved too strong and experienced for the young Stanford side and was comfortably beaten 30-0. The final game saw Stanford face Burnham on Crouch U10s. Determined to make amends for losing their second game, Stanford raised their game and convincingly beat their opponents 20-10. Prop Sam Dixon was particularly impressive with several strong runs and 2 tries to his credit. Winger Jamie Lake got his second try of the day and captain and scrum half James Brown picked up the fourth try. So Stanford U10/11s ended the year with a good win and look forward to the New Year with confidence.
Stanford played Basildon under 9’s twice, and dominated the first match, but failed to turn pressure into points. After one of many good build-ups, James Kitchen glided in to score. Bas hit straight back with a break-away try. A solid forward/back combination resulted in novice player Connor Gillam scoring. Another break-away try from deep saved Bas from defeat, the final result a 10-10 draw. In the second match, Stanford’s newer players were well supported by a few more experienced team-mates. Some bullish runs resulted in a hat-trick for Dominic McDonald and 2 tries for a rapidly improving Connor Gillam, with good displays from Josh Goshmanski and Bradley Oakley. The final result was Basildon 20 Stanford 25.
Stanford under 7’s beat Basildon under 7’s 35-20 in an exciting match, with tries from Albert Aldeham 3, Liam Brunger 2, Alfie Drum and Callum Jones. They then played Burnham under 8’s, and were just squeezed out 15-10, with the Stanford tries scored by Harry Taylor and Liam Brunger.
