At Westcliff RFC, Stanford under 12’s had tough matches against two of the best mini outfits in Essex, and came out with considerable credit. Against Braintree, they drew 5-5, with Ben Street the try-scorer. They had a great match against arch-rivals Westcliff, but eventually went down 25-20 to the home side. Try-scorers were Dean O’Connell, David Woofit, Luke Hawkes and Ben Street.
Stanford under 8’s tried out contact rugby for the first time in two training matches against Westcliff, losing 15-5 and 10-0. James Wade, Connor Lalieu and Ryan Quinn particularly enjoyed the contact. They also took on Braintree at tag rugby and won an exciting match by 35-30. Try-scorers were: Dominic McDonald 4, Sean Bunney 2, Jacob Dennis and Tyler Woofit.
Coach John Taylor took up an invitation from Upminster Rugby Club for his under 6 squad to play their first ever matches, and had a terrific day. They had three matches altogether, winning 25-10 and drawing the other two 15-15 and 20-20, all against Upminster sides. Alfie Drum was top try scorer. Other try-scorers were Harry Taylor, Sam Moran, Anthony Wade, Christopher Alexander and David McAllister.
