Stanford U9/10's played two exciting matches at a wet and windy Basildon Rugby Club. Considering the weather conditions the ball handling in the games was excellent.
In the first game Stanford took an early lead with two well worked tries from James Brown and Jamie Lake. Basildon came back strongly and pegged back a score just before half time. The second half saw the scores alternate between whoever started with the ball managing to score. Stanford managed 2 more tries (Ryan Edgeway and James Brown) and Basildon also scored 2 tries to make the final score 20-15 to Stanford.
The second game saw the Stanford backs really take control and they ran away with 5 tries to 2 for a 25-10 win over Basildon. James Brown scored all 5 tries for Stanford with his strong and direct running.
The under 8’s scored 8 tries in an exciting match to draw 40-40 with Basildon, with tries from James Kitchen 3, Ryan Quinn 3 and Dominic McDonald. There were some great passing moves across the width of the pitch, and good support play, but with better defending Stanford could and should have gained the win.
