On a bright, blustery Sunday morning, Stanford U8’s started poorly, losing their first two games to Upminster 10-15 and Sidcup 15-20, but bounced back to beat Westcliff 25-15, Brentwood 35-10 and Burnham 45-15, to reach the plate final. They put up a brave performance in the final, but Bishop Stortford beat a tired and depleted side, 25-15. The players made a very good impression on observers, and with a bigger squad may yet win trophies this season. Scorers were: Dominic McDonald 11, James Kitchen 8, George Taylor 5, Daniel O’Flaherty 3 and Jacob Dennis 2.
In their first festival together, Stanford U9’s lost 0-20 to Upminster and 0-30 to Sidcup, but went on to draw with Westcliff 5-5. They then went on to beat Brentwood 20-0, and lost in the Semi-Final of the Plate competition, 5-10 to Bishop Stortford. Scorers were: Ryan Edgeway 3, James Brown 2.
Stanford U11’s showed stamina and commitment as they took on the cream of Essex in the Upminster Rugby Festival. In their first match, Stanford showed real heart and commitment as they drew with Upminster 5-5. In sound defensive displays, Stanford lost a tight affair, 0-5, to Sidcup, and drew 0-0 with Westcliff and 10-10 with Brentwood. Although Stanford U11’s were level on points with Brentwood, they were eliminated on tries scored. Try scorers were: Sam Hawkes, Lewis Tomlinson and Jay Ingle.
Stanford U12's brought home the Plate from Upminster Festival. Matches played were: Stanford 0 Upminster 5, Stanford 15 Sidcup 5, Westcliff 15 Stanford 5, Brentwood 0 Stanford 0, Stanford 5 Rochford 0 and in a massive team performance in the final beat Brentwood 15-10. Try scorers were: Kieran Ferguson, Luke Hughes and Rhys Smith Allen.
