At Thurrock on Sunday, Stanford under 6’s played two matches, against Thurrock and Eton Manor, Alfie Drum scoring two tries, with one each from Anthony Wade and Harry Taylor.

Stanford under 8’s had a good day, beating Thurrock twice, 35-25 and 50-20, and losing narrowly to Eton Manor 35-30. The second string lost 50-25 to Sidcup. Try-scorers were: George Taylor 7, Dominic McDonald 6, James Kitchen 6, Sean Bunney 4, Dan O’Flaherty 2 and a debut try for Tyler Woofit.

At U9/U10 level, the derby with Thurrock was a try fest with Stanford outscoring their plucky rivals by 45 points to 10. The Stanford scorers were Nathan Hickey 6, Jamie Lake 2, and James Brown 1. Captain Ryan Edgeway was superb at hooker with several bone crunching tackles. Sidcup were a much more physical side and the Stanford team struggled to get the ball to their speedy backs. Sidcup triumphed 25-0, but to their credit Stanford didn’t give up and came close to scoring on numerous occasions, without quite getting over the Sidcup line.

The under 11’s also enjoyed a successful day, Beating hosts Thurrock 10-0, drawing 5-5 with Sidcup and just being shaded 5-0 by Eton Manor. Jamie Douglas scored twice and Sam Hawkes once.

Stanford under 12’s had a tough day against quality opposition. They were unlucky to lose 15-10 to Sidcup, with Ben Street and Luke Hawkes supplying the tries, and Thurrock shaded a close contest 5-0. Jordan Harper scored against Eton Manor but Stanford went down 20-5.

Next week Stanford travel to challenge their other local rivals Basildon.
